The Beatles — “Love Me Do”

Debut single released by the Beatles, in 1962 in the UK & 1964 in North America. Written several years before by Lennon-McCartney, before the band even existed, it was one of four songs the band attempted to record their very first recording session after being signed by EMI. Three recorded versions exist, each with a different drummer, Ringo Starr, Pete Best, & session drummer Andy White. The Canadian version featured Starr, these were imported into the US until a version was released there, with White on drums. When released it charted number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, number eight on the Canadian singles charts, & 17 in the UK. It was the fourth of six songs by the group to hit number 1 in the US within a one year period. Certified platinum in the US, & gold in the UK.
